What is a NOC code?
A NOC (National Occupational Classification) code is how Canada groups jobs by their duties and skill level, called TEER. Your NOC shapes which immigration programs you can use, so identifying it correctly is one of the first and most important steps in any application.
Describe the tasks you actually do. Duties matter more than the title.
Enter a job title or some duties above to see your likely NOC matches.
These are informational estimates generated in your browser, not an official classification. Confirm your correct NOC against the Government of Canada's official NOC before relying on it for any application.
Match on duties, not job titles
Two employers can give the same work completely different titles, so titles alone are unreliable. The NOC is defined by what you actually do. When you describe concrete tasks, such as the systems you build, the people you supervise, or the budgets you manage, the match becomes far more accurate.
What TEER means
Every NOC carries a TEER category from 0 to 5, reflecting the training, education, experience, and responsibilities a job typically needs. TEER 0 covers management, TEER 1 usually a university degree, and the numbers rise as formal requirements decrease. Many skilled immigration streams focus on TEER 0 to 3.
Why your NOC matters for immigration
Programs reference NOC codes and TEER when deciding whether experience counts and which streams are open to you. Choosing the wrong code early can send an application in the wrong direction, which is why confirming it against the official classification is worth the time.
